Sounds like a pop-up or System Tray item, to me, too. Did you recently
install any hardware or software that now has an icon in your System Tray?
Some of these icons can be set to not show, or even to not provide status
updates/changes. I agree with Dennis that this is the most likely suspect,
since it's random.

Interesting you raise this issue.

On my home machine only (not my work machine), I only recently started
noticing this behavior. It was under JAWS 8. so I figured that upgrading
to version 9 may help. But it did not help.

The problem for me is like this:

Say I'm in windows explorer, navigating thru a file list. Once and a
while, JAWS will say "clear" instead of the file name. However if I do
either a say-line function or if I move off and back onto the item, it
will say the correct name. This is the same for the desktop.

For internet explorer, similar behavior. If I'm tabbing thru links, or
down arrowing thru a page, JAWS will say "clear". But say-line or moving
off and then back onto that line will read the line correctly.

It's curious that this behavior only started happing for me within the
past week or 2.

I thought it may be caused by me not powering up the video monitor
since, to save power, we now typically turn it off. But that doesn't
seem to be the issue either.

This is a problem that has dogged me for quite a while. It has occurred
on both my current and previous computers. Windows XP Home and
Professional, with all updates. and a Microsoft wireless keyboard. It
happens both when using software synths (Eloquence and RealSpeak Daniel)
as well as TripleTalk USB.

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Any helpful suggestions?
