There is no way the NLS can test all brands of flash drives to determine which
ones work with the DTB player. The best thing to do is to stick with Kingston
flash drives, which are cheap and are known to work with the player.

You do have to be careful to get a brand of thumb drive that will work with
the machine. I've read the smaller the better because the machine has to scan
the media when starting. I have a 2 gig Verbatim Tiny something that works
nicely. It would be courteous if the NLS would compile a list of usable thumb
drives. I would advise anybody that the foolproof thing to do is to get
cartridges.

As for the awkward placement of the USB port on the side of the machine, you
might try a USB extension cord, that is, Male to female as was the type sold by
Independent Living Aids with the one gig cartridge.

Thanks. I was wondering what brand to consider if important and is there a
rule of thumb for price per gig.
Also as this device will protrude from the player, are there ones that are
compact enough so as to avoid unnecessary bumping and the like.
Lastly, is the fit into the port universal?
As I often freely admit, I'm too stupid to own this computer. <G> Mitch

Yes and yes. Any specific questions? the process works well. (I'm a JAWS
11 user, but I assume JAWS 12 acts no differently in this instance.)

Greetings: Does anyone have experience with their desktop computer and a
USB flash drive for the BARD book machine?
Further, will JAWS 12 announce simple navigation to this drive when
properly installed?

I am using the cartridge method at the moment but am looking for
recommendations for a good value in a reliable flash drive to enable increased
storage.

Thanks for any guidance and tips. Best Holiday Wishes, Mitch
