I did go to the configuration manager initially but couldn't for the life of
me find where that setting was. Can you guide me?

Verbosity changes in most cases remain in effect only till you leave
the page you changed. To make permanent changes use configuration
manager: insert-f2, arrow down to configuration manager, alt-s for settings.
