So if we need to reinstal Windows, does this mean our locking code changes
even if we haven't changed hardware physically?

You cannot format the harddisk, but you can do a clean install or upgrade.
Clean install option will install new windows from scrach, and it will
create Windows.Old folder in C drive, which will contain all of your old
windows files and folders.
Upgrade option will keep all of your computer's settings and folder in same
location. If you select upgrade option, you do not have to reinstall jaws,
but you may have to activate it.
