Dave, I played with that too.  It just changes whether list items say if they 
are selected or unselected or both.  Still doesn't say item number.

  In the text settings there is also a List Items combo box. Have you played 
around with that, as well?

    I have not been able to get Jaws to automatically announce the item number 
in  lists.  In verbosity, I turn on Item number. And in Text processing, .  I 
turn on 
    Speak Item State First 
    Speak Window Type First
    Speak Window State First. 

      It still does not work.  

      I have to do something like Jawskey + up arrow to read the line again to 
hear what item number I am on.

      Maybe this is a bug.

      Why does JAWS read the indexes (eg 1 of 20) only when the item is "not 
selected" or when I tab and go back with shift +tab? How could I get it to 
allways say it when I am browsing some list with the arrow keys?
