Do you have "details" checked in the view menu? Press alt+v in windows explorer and then just press d. insert+ctrl+numbers on the number row should work. Also be sure that the window is maximized. Thanks! Looks like in XP I have an "arrange by" menu in the context but when I arrow down it only gives the column titles and not the actual information. sounds like an enhancement in Windows 7. Appreciate you taking the time to explain. Dave: I am using Window 7 and here is what I do. 1. Focus on the item in question, lets say its the song animal by def lepard. 2. I remove selection by doing F5 or in my case CTRL space bar. 3. I bring up the context menue by doing Shift F10 or the applications key. 4. I arrow down to sort by and right arrow into the sub menue. (here when I arrow down I will here name, number, title, etc. 5. if a detail is not being echoed that I would like to hear, I arrow to the more choices dot dot dot option and press enter. 6. You can arrow down now and check the appropriate choice you would like to be echoed, for example, I have name, number, title and length checked. 7. I tab over until I hear width of selected column (in pixels) and type in 100 and tab to ok and press spacebar. Now when I go back into my music folder and jump to def lepard and use my right arrow key, I will hear: number 182 out of 761, title animal, contributing artist def lepard, album volt greatest hits and length 00:4.03. Again, I am using window 7, I have done this on vista but I am not sure about XP. Take care. Kimsan, Sorry to be pushy, but please tell me how you can read the various columns using the arrow keys. I use Insert+Ctrl+1, 2, 3, etc. Using the arrow keys in a list view does nothing. If you know something that I don't I'd sure like to learn about it. Enquiring minds want to know. Hi Dave Kimsan, & Peter; 1 other way you can get file information while in list view, is with the file highlighted, press the Insert / Jaws key + page down / 3 key. Hope this helps. Take care. Hi Dave; Using XP, with detail view checked, I get the same results as you and can't get any information using the arrow keys. Which leads me to the question, what operating systems are Peter & Kimsan running? I know Kimsan runs Windows7 but, I don't know about Peter. Daniel, good point! Take care. The keystrokes are Insert+Ctrl+the numbers 1, 2, etc. Dave Composed on a Dell Latitude 630 in the general vicinity of my Audio Recording and Mixing Studios, San Francisco Bay Area. ----- Original Message ----- From: Peter Holdstock To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 31, 2010 11:15 Subject: Re: How can JAWS recognize the file size and format automatically? Hi, if I've understood correctly, in windows explorer set the view to details under the view menu. Then as you move down to a file, you can press left and right arrow keys to move to the various bits of information i.e. file type, size etc. Peter -----Original Message----- From: mostafa almahdy Sent: Tuesday, December 28, 2010 4:24 AM To: jfw Subject: How can JAWS recognize the file size and format automatically? just as it in the subject line -- Best Wishs.
