Chris,

What you need to do is go into Outlook Express. From a folder, not an open
message, hit alt-v for Views, arrow down to Columns and press enter.

Now, you'll have several different things which you can first choose to show
or hide. You'll see the Attachment Indicator, From, Subject, Received,
Account, Size, Date, etc.

Now, be advised your version of JFW may not read whether the item is checked
or not. But, you will know whether the item is checked or not by tabbing over
three times and you will see Hide or Show. If you see Hide, it means the item
is currently set to be displayed; and if you see show, it means that
particular item is currently going to be hidden from your view.

Now, you probably want to hide some of those items, so you can make more room
to expand your subject field. You can also order the items by using the Move
UP and Move Down buttons.

Let's say, for example, you want the message subject to be first in the list.
Just go to the item entitled subject, and press the move up button until it is
at the top. Now, tab over past the Hide and Reset buttons. You'll be in an
edit box where you can specify the width in pixels for the subject field. I
set mine at 750 which seems to be adequate in most cases.

NOTE: To make room, you may have to narrow some of the other displayed field
widths.

As far as creating rules for sending messages to different folders, here are
some instructions:

1. Press alt-t for tools, then r for message rules. Tab over to new. and
press enter.

2. Now, you're in a column of things to trigger the rule. Pick the ones you
want. For example: If you want to sort out messages from a particular list,
look for "where the to or CC line contains people". "People" just
means character string. Press spacebar on the items you want checked.

3. Tab again and you are in a column of actions such as delete the message,
forward it, or move it to a folder. This is at the top and it's the one you
want so press spacebar on move it to a folder.

4. Tab again and you're where you pick the names of people and folders.
Cursor down once and press enter and you will be where you can type in the
string you want Outlook Express
to use such as JFW@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Enter it. Tab to add. Press enter. Tab
to ok and press enter again.

5. Now you're back at the name picking column again. Cursor down twice and
press enter. This puts you in the folders list. You can pick an existing
folder or make a new one. If you decide to make a new one, make it at the
level
above where you want it to show up. After picking or entering it, tab to ok
and press enter.

6. Tab again. You're now at the rule naming area. There's a default name,
such as Message rule 4. If you type in a rule name you'll remember, it will
help you find it next time. Type in the name you want and tab to ok and
press enter. You're done.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Steve
