I have a million of them that I don't necessarily feel like adding to the dictionary and just skip. This is just a really basic spell check question that you learn by actually learning to use the spell check function of Word or Outlook and Outlook Express. which some subscribers to this list seem never to have done, so they're learning these programs and their functions by trial and error and asking questions. Which isn't the most effective way to learn something like this stuff, but there's no law against it, either, so we pitch in and try to tutor a little. I figured that's all it was. Look, the person said nothing about being sidetracked by grammar corrections, did he or she? I don't think so. I personally don't know anyone who even uses the grammar correction feature of the spell check, but the point is, I didn't think it was very unlikely that this is what they meant. It wasn't written clearly, the question. We need to be aware of that. The range of English fluency on this list is much wider than on all the other blind tech lists I'm on, reflecting a much wider range among subscribers of both educational level as well as a wide range of English fluency in the cases of people who, whether they're living in the U.S. or England or in other countries, have acquired or are in the process of acquiring English as a second language. It's because of this that I realized I couldn't interpret the question and had simply jumped to a conclusion hopefully, expecting a response to correct and clarify. Which response hasn't been forthcoming, so far. Anyway, I think the lesson here for me, you and anyone else isn't to project onto vague statements and questions our own assumptions of what people must mean, if they're like us in the way they use their computer. Which they're not, necessarily. Steve, think before you flame. No may dase lata. Jaws phonetics , not actual spelling. Kick back and pop a cold Coors. Good man. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judith Bron" <jbron@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, March 19, 2006 1:52 PM Subject: Re: Skipping through misspelled words (was Jaws 7.1, etc.) From the way the question was phrased I drew the conclusion that the author didn't want to hear suggestions about grammer when he or she really wanted to check only the spelling in the document. Also, since this happens to me a lot, there are some words a person uses in a diverse society that might have their origins in pop culture or in a foreign language and the author doesn't want to hear that a word is misspelled every time that word appears in the document. I might be in error when it comes to others but these are problems that I have adapted in spell check over the years.
