Open source has its drawbacks too.

Am I naive that this just shows the need for open source programs?

If I build support for beta 1, then beta 2 breaks the support, so I have
to go in and build support for beta 2, then beta 3 breaks support for
that, etc., etc., etc., I believe that's called spinning my wheels. Better
to wait until the thing is actually released, or a bout to be released,
and offer support that won't break in a beta that gets released tomorrow.
