I think this is a timely post. Let's see if we can persuade FS to be more
proactive this time eh?

Subject: Windows vista support and jaws

Hi all,

Sorry for the cross posting but I felt this was important.

As some of you know, I am testing the beta of windows vista and have been
for a little while now, since beta 1 ...

Well, in the course of this testing: I was surprised to find out that jaws
installed and worked correctly, which is good news I suppose ... However, I
have found out that this is really been dumb luck on the part of
FreedomScientific, since in the latest beta build of 5270 ... Jaws has
stopped working. The install still proceeds without a hitch, but jaws can't
install the video intercept anymore.

The reason I bring any of this up is that I have been talking to the
wonderful folks at FreedomScientific, who have told me that they will not
even start working on windows vista until it is released.

I just thought you should know, since many of the people on these lists use
jaws, followed by windoweyes, followed by hal/supernova.

It is interesting to note that GWMicro seems to be much more sensible in
that they already profess to have minor compatibility. While I do not use
their product except for testing and other similar situations: I would like
to applaud them for actually caring.

If you all wish ... Maybe a storm/torrent of emails to FreedomScientific
would get them to admit something more about their plans for vista. I can't
say I am surprised at all by FS's actions, as it is no more than I expected
from Erick Damerie, but I also will say that I have confidence in the power
of the people on this list ... We have some of the more prominent users on
these lists due to educational background, experience with the product, and
so forth ... Maybe you all can make a difference.

In the mean time ... It seems my usefulness in testing windows vista is at a
stand still ... Disgust hardly comes close to what I feel towards FS right
now. I honestly have more respect for people who make graphical verification
software than I do towards FreedomScientific.

Have a pleasant day, everyone.

Take care,
Sina
