Further to this topic...FS Support has just replied that the omission of the
Alt+1, 2, 3, and 4 keystrokes to read the top 4 cells in a column was
inadvertently left out of the Excel scripts, and will be "put back" in a
later release.

For those who are salivating, awaiting more news about JAWS 12 and its
effects on Excel, here you go...

I alerted you that we lost the ability to read the upper four cells of a
column in Excel, with the launch of JAWS 12. The reason is twofold: (1) they
took the actual scripts out of the .jss file, and (2) The Alt+1, 2, 3, 4
keystrokes now launch any Quick Access Tools that have been defined.

So until (or if) FS decides to address this omission I did the following:

1. opened the Microsoft Excel 2007.JSS file from the JAWS 11 enu folder in
the script manager.
2. Located the four scripts that begin with ColumnFirst, ColumnSecond,
ColumnThird, and ColumnFourth.
3. Copied these four scripts in their entirety.
4. Closed the JAWS 11 file and opened the same file from JAWS 12. Note that
the Microsoft Excel 2007.JSS file is initially located in the shared
settings folder until you make changes to it, then a copy will appear in
your user settings folder.
5. Go to the bottom of the file and paste the four scripts.
6. Then with the cursor on the first line of the first script Press Ctrl+D
to open documentation.
7. Tab to the assign field and use Ctrl+Shift+1 for the first.
8. Save, and repeat for the other three, assigning Ctrl+Shift+2 to the
second, Ctrl+Shift+3 to the third, etc.
9. save and compile the scrip.
Now in Excel I use Ctrl+Shift+1, 2, 3, and 4 to do what Alt+1, 2, 3, and 4
used to do before JAWS 12 came along.

If these steps scare you or you don't understand what's going on, I
recommend you don't bother using them. Just badger FS to give you back the
keystrokes they stole.
