Asked to Cease Lawsuit Against Serotek Corporation Everett, the lawsuit is not about trademark infringement. Apparently FS's new private equity owners are so hungry for money, they will sue anyone if they think they can get a bigger settlement than what they paid for the lawyers. most significantly, the Freedom Box company has new and innovative technology that allows blind people to access computers remotely or portably in a seamless way. rather than innovate and match the competition, it was probably deemed by FS that an aggressive lawsuit could severely weaken this competitor or put them out of business. In this country, loads of folks jump into the courtroom to achieve aims that have nothing to do with the merits of the case. Kelly ----- Original Message ----- From: E.J. Asked to Cease Lawsuit Against Serotek Corporation Good evening, I know very little about trademark infringment in the United States. However, I find it difficult to believe that a significant number of persons are confused between "Freedom Scientific's JAWS", and "Serotech's Freedom Box". Is this really confusing people? Everett ----- Original Message ----- From: Darrell Shandrow To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, May 20, 2007 8:07 PM Subject: Re: Freedom Scientific, Inc. Asked to Cease Lawsuit Against Serotek Corporation Hello John, Serotek provides alternative technology for the blind, some of which does compete with the JAWS screen reader sold by Freedom Scientific. Their System Access screen reader is relatively new to the field, but their FreedomBox Network has been around since 2000. FreedomBox Network is essentially an online service similar to AOL. In fact, many of us refer to the FreedomBox Network as AOL for the blind. System Access and their newer remote access technologies provide completely mobile computer access to virtually any system, as well as potentially new employment opportunities for blind people who must have remote access to other computers. Freedom Scientific is suing Serotek over the use of the term "FreedomBox". Please feel free to read http://www.blindaccessjournal.com and http://www.thedesertskies.com as well as do Google searches, before deciding whether or not you will sign onto the petition. Thanks.
