RE: Forced to switch to JFW Pro

One of the problems with the HP computers is the amount of "free"
software they are loaded with. They seem to come with a lot of "free"
support software which turns out to be demo versions and will expire in
30/90 days forcing you to either remove it or purchase it.
As with many new computers the operating system is loaded onto a
segregated part of the hard drive which seems to be inaccessible to you
for updating.
In the past year or so I have seen more computers loaded with Media
Center. Again, there was a thread on this list discussing JAWS and Media
Center.
Some say that regular JAWS will work with it and other say it won't. (?)
Perhaps the older versions (say pre 6.0) will work just fine with it but
no JAWS, Window-Eyes or Hal will work with the Media Center program
itself.
The thing is a nightmare so just leave it alone. As Consumer Reports
often states, "There are better choices".
I have also seen an increasing number of the "referbished" computers
loaded with XP Pro so beware!
Cy, the Anccccient Okie...

yes, and I don't believe thatFS *tricks* people into purchasing XP
pro. They are going to recommend it in some cases, and the uneducated

person who doesn't bother to do research will just happily go along with

them, only to find out that it doesn't work later on. I don't know why
so
many people on this and other lists have had bad experiences with FS
tech
support, because I never had it when I called them. I did have one guy
who
didn't have much of a personality, but he did help me fix the problem,
and
all the guys I've talked to were nice. The e-mail tech support is a bit

lacking because they're a bit slow to respond and a lot oof times the
answers are less than helpful so it's always better to call them and
talk
to someone, at least that's where I've had my best luck. as to the
situation at hand, I would most certainly take that damn computer back
and
if it's under waranty, which it most definitely should be, get a new
one. Also, I would definitely stay away from anything HP makes as far
as a
computer system. I've heard nothing but horror stories about their lack
of
stability and reliability, and this isn't even counting what JAWS does
to
them! So hopefully, a new computer can be purchased, with xp home. I
can
honestly see why that mistake was made though, you don't hear about
media
center addition as much, and until today, I didn't know that JAWS
recognized that as being xp pro.
