Judy, have you tried the two alternatives to the full site? One is Facebook mobile and is optimized for smart phones and other similar devices:
http://m.facebook.comand in between the mobile version and full version, there is Facebook Lite:
http://lite.facebook.com.I tend to use the full site until I run into a problem, at which time I switch to either Facebook Lite or Facebook Mobile.
