Hello List,
I forwarded a comment from this list to Beth Hatch, who I knew had overcome
this problem earlier this week. Here is her reply.

Hi Alan,

I'm having problems with the freelists.org site, so please forward this
message along to this list if you don't mind. Maybe what I did will help
someone.<smile>

Previously before installing JAWS 6.20 earlier this week, I had been running
JAWS 6.10 with the Dectalk USB installed. However, I was unable to make it
the default synthesizer, the only way I could get it to work at all was to
make eloquence the default, then change to the Dectalk USB after I logged
into my XP system. I figured perhaps the other Dectalk synthesizers, or
something else, might be conflicting with getting the Dectalk USB to run
properly. On my JAWS 6.10 machine I had Eloquence, the Dectalk Express on
serial, Dectalk Access 32, Eloquence, and the Microsoft api synthesizers
available to me in JAWS. Here is how the problem got fixed when I installed
JAWS 6.20.

First, when I chose my preferred synthesizers in the new JAWS
installation, I chose only the dectalk USB since eloquence is installed
always as along with everything else anyway without having to choose it
directly. I unchecked all of the other dectalk entries and continued
through the installation of 6.20. I rebooted my machine as directed.
Unfortunately, the Dectalk USB did not work. I then went to the tools menu
and maintenance for JAWS 6.20. When I picked synthesizers to install again,
the dectalk USB was the only one checked and I left it this way. After
installing this synthesizer, I restarted Jaws and now it works flawlessly as
the default synthesizer. I don't know if this is just a weird thing on my
system, or if it would help anyone else.<smile> Feel free to write to me at
bhatch200@xxxxxxxxxxx if I can be of assistance.

Best Regards,

Beth Hatch

Has anyone out there gotten JFW 6.2 to work with the DecTalk USB
synthesizer? It's not working for me, and at the moment the FS escalations
person can't figure out why. I'm wondering if it's working for anyone else.
