It should be pointed out that, while similar in their nature, 'file transfer protocal' and the sending of attachments through email are two completely different things. With respect to the latter, the file size would have to depend on whatever limitations are put in place by either your provider or the provider on the receiving end. In some cases, you may not be able to send over a certain sized message, including attachments. At the same time, the person you're sending it to may not be able to receive such a large message.
