Escape key very sluggish

I installed jaws 7.1 on this computer a couple of days ago and since then,
the escape key has been very sluggish. I have rebooted a number of times and
also tried merging my settings but to no avail I have looked around the
configuration manager but have not recognized anything there that I thought
would help. Will appreciate any help..
