Hi Darrell,I guess that means another entry in the Blind Access Journal... I can see other factors: many people think that, when a blind person uses JAWS, it is due to scripts and many think that JAWS requires scripts in order for blind users to use their apps. I'm in complete agreement with Darrell - that there are many software that works "out of the box" - that is, it does not require scripts, config files, etc. Maybe the next move for Patty would be to get a "sample" of what the application is - that is, try it and see what happens.
Cheers, Joseph

Hello Joseph,
On the other hand, we also know that a lot of
software works without special
scripting, or some advanced JAWS users may be
able to perform their own
scripting or just use the application as it
stands. I believe the
employer's response below is, at a minimum,
presumptive and probably
outright discriminatory if pursued to its
ultimate conclusion.

Hi Patty, Jennifer and list, Well, here's the explanation of what "scripting" means: JAWS scripting means creating what's called scripts for an application so that JAWS can effectively work with it. It is like a little program on behalf of JAWS. It gathers information displayed on the program's screen and tells JAWS what to do. I think the response should not be treated as dismissal, but more towards unavailability of JAWS to work with the software in question. Cheers, Joseph

Hi Patty,
While I don't have an answer to yourquestion, I wanted to just say that I find this very strange. Not too long ago, there was an article I read in the newspaper about this company. They are based in Arizona, and the article said that they cater to disabled workers. The man in the article was blind, and he worked for this company. I don't understand why you received that response.

Hi Everyone.
I don't think this is the right venue formy question/request but I'm going to post the question anyway in the hopes that someone can point me in the right direction.
I have been looking for a job and cameacross this company called Arise (Arise.com), a home-based customer service type company. I haven't even finished the admissions process and they have already dismissed me. The response I got was as follows:
Thank you for your email. Right now we donot have any applications scripted for Jaws. If one becomes available I will be glad to let you know.
Best Regards, Regine Janvier
Admissions Specialist
Can anyone tell me what scripting is andhow complicated it might be to get a company like Arise to do this?If anyone can point me in the rightdirection, I would appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Patty Davis-- JFW related links:JFW homepage:
