I'm sure that there are those who don't care but for those of us who learned typing in high school back in the day when windows were only used to look out of this formatting is second nature. IT causes what are known as rivers of white which meander down a page. Double spacing following the period was helpful with fixed fonts as produced on a typewriter because the thinner letters left white space in patches which meant that the wider spaces of a double space were more easily recognized and the appearance was not so obvious with already more white space. > > So, with the advent of our more modern technology the need or desire > has changed.
