Answer. John Ramsey gave the argument for plugging in an entire keyboard. I used to do the same, but I find the complete keyboard cumbersome, depending on how I'm traveling. When I travel abroad, it is much simpler to carry a laptop and a numpad, which is tiny and easily fits into a laptop case pocket. Note also Ted Lisle's recent email, in which he offered an interesting alternative that I plan to look into one day.
