Hi Laura, and others I know NVDA is not as good as Jaws but I must admit myself I give it credit. But what I'm saying Laura, as you started this topic do you mean for Jaws to say things like "1 of 25" stuff like that? Because I know NVDA does it all the time no matter weather your in a links list viewing your emails on the desktop NVDA always says something like "1 of 10" depending wear you are. Is there anyway to turn this kind of feature in Jaws? Jaws is the main thing hear not NVDA but was just pointing it out.

NVDA certainly isn't as slick as JAWS, but it also hasn't been around as long and the price is much more agreeable. Give it time and it won't surprise me if NVDA eventually catches up or surpasses JAWS. This does seem to be controlled by the verbosity setting, I changed to Advanced in the verbosity settings and now it doesn't speak the position/count even when switching focus. There is an Item Number listing in the verbosity settings but messing with it makes it appear that the scripts don't check it in all the places they should.
