I think it's been pretty well established that JAWS is unable to speak
the item number and total items automatically as you move through a
list, delete items etc.  There are, as has been pointed out, ways to
get that information; but the answer to the original question is "no".

It likely wouldn't be very difficult to change this behavior by
digging through the scripts but the easiest fix would also likely be
undone by any update from FS.
