email has been pretty much fixed. The best thing to do of course is to get
your own personal domain or email adddress so that it doesn't matter what
isp you use. I digress however.

Hi. The bit about the email addres s changing is somewhat incorrect. You can
keep your old email address assuming you want to pay for it. I do this with
Earthlink even though we have Verizon as our DSL provider. Verizon offers
great DSL and Earthlink offers great email and if you reduce your old isp's
account so that you only get about 10 free hours it shouldn't be very
expensive.

Since you're connecting through Comcast you won't have to pay to connect to
your old isp and so 10 hours or whatever they give you at a reduced rate,
should be fine.

When we had Comcast I had some problems with their email. Emails would
simply disappear and people weren't able to reply to me. This was about four
years ago so hopefully things have changed. Any Comcast users have the scoop
on the email problem?

As others have said, just have them set up your connection and do not let
them install their software. it is not needed and is really only there to
look pretty and it may make life easy for a sighted user, but for us it
really isn't needed. also, make sure everything is the way you want it
before they leave. Try doing all the normal things you do and test things
out. Don't let them leave until you're completely satisfied. Also before I
forget, your e-mail address will change when you go to comcast, so be sure
to unsubscribe from any other lists you're on because after you have your
new comcast address, it won't be easy to get into your old e-mail account
and unsubscribe yourself from the lists you're on.
So first unsubscribe yourself from those other lists, and when you have
your cable internet set up and you're sure e-mail is working, re-subscribe
yourself with your new comcast address.
If you avoid their software and just use a standard cable connection,
you'll be fine.
