That would explain it David. First, you press enter for forms mode. Then hold
down your ALT key and press down arrow.
You now should land in sort of like a list box. Arrow down normally until you
find the choice you want. Then press alt+up arrow to activate it. I don't
know what you're doing wrong because it always works for me.

I'd provide an example where it does not work if one came to hand. I have
had to alt+ left arrow two even though I press enter to turn forms mode on,
press alt arrow to open the combo box and instantly am taken to one of the
choices as if I had clicked the choice instead of arrowing to it.

Trust me, this is a jaws command. If done properly it does work everywhere.
I don't get what the problem is here. Can you tell me exactly what you are
  doing in what order?

    Hi,

I've come across combo boxes where this method doesn't work. Actually
nothing works except pressing alt + left arrow and going back to the
combo box and choosing the next item in the list and so forth until
the desired choice is reached which can be a real pain if there are a
lot of items in the list.

Guys, what you do is press enter first to enter into the combo box,
    then
press alt down arrow, arrow around to select your desired choice and
    then
    press alt up arrow.

    Hi,

I've had this happen to me on some web pages but not on all. It seems
    to me
that this is a web-page problem rather than a jaws problem. One way to
    get
around it is to cursor down to the selection you want very quickly and
    let
the program activate it for you. I'm referring here to jaws 4.2
    version.
    Good luck!

The alt plus down arrow does not seem to open the combo box. Enter
    does open
the box, but when I hit the down arrow to select a product, it
    activates the
link immediately and takes me to a download page preventing me from
    making
the selection that I want, which is not the first one in the combo
    box.

    Hi Robert,
Press alt and cursor down to open the menu, then use your up and down
    cursor
    to browse through.
    I hope this helps.

Thanks in advance and hope this is clear.
When on a combo box and hitting down arrow to highlight a desired
selection, sometimes the link is activated simply by hitting the down
    arrow
instead of the enter key or tabbing to a button for submit or select.
How does one make choice selections in this situation without starting
    a
download of something you do not want.
I am using XPHome, Jaws 5x, and IE.

The download page of www.ultralingua.com has a combo box that act this
    way,
the one for select product to download.
     Again, thanks in advance
