I didn't even know till today this would happen. So I tried it. I probably
assumed it was Jaws having fits if I ever accidentally did this in the past.

Oh, boy can't tell you how many time's I've accidentally done that, and
wondered where all the text went. Sure is nice to have undo.

    Adrian:

sorry for the late reply. I was in the UK from 15th June to 4th July, so I
am Catching up. Although I took my laptop, I could not get it fixed until a
few days before my return. Too late to worry about email and the like, until I
got back.

The CTRL+A command is the Windows command for highlighting all text in a
document, email message, etc, regardless as to where the cursor is in the text.

The CTRL+A command, cannot be used to unhighlight text.

Using any of the arrow keys, page up and page down keys and the home and
end keys will unhighlight any text that is highlighted.

Warning! If you have selected/highlighted any text, Pressing a key that
inserts a character, including a space character, will result in the text that
is selected/highlighted, being deleted. If you accidentally do this, press
CTRL+Z to undo your last action and restore the highlighted text.

    HTH

    Sincerely:

    Dave Durber

When I tried Laura's suggestion, the first press of control-a resulted in
JAWS saying, "Selected." When I pressed control-a a second time, JAWS said,
"Unselected." this was in an email message.

Perhaps it works in XP, which I have, but not Windows 7, which I know
you've advanced to. The only other explanation must be that I'm not an Anasazi!

      Hi Adrian,

Yes, I gave it a try but nothing changed.

Now, even more interesting is the fact that when I am in an email and
press ctrl+A I do hear "selected" but when in a folder such as "deleted items"
or whatever I hear (nothing selected? In both cases the keystroke actually
works properly although JAWS does not think so. (LOLLOLLOL)

      Oh well, maybe JAWS V12?

Did you test Laura's suggestion? I just did, and she's right. It's useful
information.

      I don't think ctrl+a ever unselects anything. I think CTRL+A always
selects everything.

Hit control a twice that way you can make sure that everything is
selected and unselected that's just my advice. Take it or leave it.

          Hi,

Again, W7 64 bit, Outlook 2007 and an HP Pavilion.

In Outlook when I press ctl+a to select all messages in the folder
JAWS dutifully reports that "Nothing selected" - but - when I do the
shift+delete and then confirm guess what, everything *WAS* selected and all is
gone.

Just thought I would mention the misinformation so someone is not
lulled into thinking that nothing war really selected and makes an unfortunate
discovery. (LOL)
