Adrian, Good point. I guess we shouldn't complain. But then what's the fun in that? I just hope that FS monitors this list and takes note of some of these real-world issues we face every day. The reply I'm about to write is straying farther and farther from the real purpose of this list, which is to supply answers to practical JAWS problems. But as I said to you off-list, each of us JAWS users has different eye conditions and many have additional disabilities. for example, here we are complaining about difficult key combinations for people with two hands. I wonder what someone is thinking who has to tackle them with one hand, even with JAWS's alternative feature for that purpose (about which I know nothing). Some JAWS users can benefit from magnification. Others are blessed with braille fluency. I lean toward respecting FS for attempting to cover all these variations in a single package. I can see how it makes business sense, considering how small our population is, but it also shows respect for our many differences. As you say, my two cents, probably worth the price. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Farfar Carlson Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2010 2:38 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [Bulk] RE: jaws key + windows key + F4 Adrian, Definitely. I use Insert+J so often that I've trained my hands to do it without thinking, just like Insert +F12 for the time and date. Both are a two-handed operation, with the left hand having to leave the home keys and move way over. Yes, took me a while to get used to the "new and improved" virtualize window key combination -- they certainly made it harder, not easier. Maybe we should start a "most hated keys" list and send along to FS? Of course we all know that as the number of functions and capabilities of JAWS increase, the number of remaining simple key combinations will decrease, giving us these agonizing combinations and changes as they try to make things consistent across all the platforms: Braille, Speech, and Magnification. And there we're back to my original rant on making JAWS "all things to all people". They should just K-I-S-S. Now that's unnatural, requiring you to use the left index finger for a key otherwise pressed with the right hand. You'll notice I'm using the desktop layout. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mike & Barbara In Arcadia Sent: Tuesday, November 23, 2010 1:28 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: jaws key + windows key + F4 HI Dave; The way I invoke this keystroke is, right little finger on the Insert key, right thumb on the windows key, & press the F4 key with the left index finger. I have small hands so, I have to be creative with some keystrokes that should be part of that game called " Twister ." If you didn't notice anything, then perhaps you didn't actually hit the Windows key. I agree with you. Some of these keystrokes actually hurt my 58-year-old fingers. Using the insert key on the numpad, that's a really difficult stretch. In my perfect world, the jaws key would be in the middle of the keyboard right below the spacebar. I hate having to jump all the way over to the numpad with my right hand and frequently have to move my left hand out of position to cover a certain key, then have to move both hands back. Seems so inefficient... btw, what does this keystroke do? I tried it and heard my computer make a little sci-fi sound. Figured I'd better do it a second time to toggle it off, whatever it was.
