Dave,

By golly the alt+delete key works quite well in W7 64 bit, Outlook 2007 and
JAWS 11.

Well, Adrian, I'm wrong again. I guess it's important to point out that the
Alt+delete readout will differ, based on which application is being used. I
was using it in OE when writing the previous message, and have verified that
indeed it reads inches in MS-Word. So I'll need to be more concise next
time.

Dave, I set alt-delete to report in inches, and it does so in MS Word 2003
on my system. I checked before posting. I made the adjustment years ago and
can't recall how as I write, but I do recall other choices were available,
presumably including pixels. I find inches easier to conceptualize.

Adrian,

I beg to differ. The position reported with Alt+delete is in pixels, not
inches. Interestingly enough, when writing this message and trying the
keystroke occasionally, it always reported 0 and 1, etc. Don't know why
it's not reporting changes in the position, but it works as advertised in
other places.

I'd forgotten about JAWS key-delete, which reports the line and column of
the caret. This answers Hamid's question, but for the record, the position
of the active cursor can be determined by pressing alt-delete. On my system,
this key combination states the position from left and top edges in terms of
inches.

Hi folks, I especially need to know the column number the cursor is
currently placed at (not in a table but in a text). Any key stroke? or
anything else? Thanks, Hamid
