Bruce,
I should think that the fact that FS bundles Eloquence as the default =
synth=20
with Jaws makes it their responsibility to provide ind a solution for =
the=20
end user on this issue. =20
Nope it is up to the producer of the software to fix problems they have =
with
there code. Fs is not responsible for fixing bugs in other producers =
code.
That would be like saying well I got ms speech from fs so fs has to fix =
a
problem that ms speech has. Or another example is I got windows media =
audio
from winamp now there is a problem with wma so when is winamp going to =
fix
it. In both the above cases the software is not owned but lisened to =
the
distributor in these cases winamp and fs. They can not modify the code =
in
any way except where it is involved providing a interface to there =
program.
Remember the trouble ms got in to a few years ago when they forgot this =
and
rewrote java for windows apps. =20

In this configuration, the company that makes=20
Eloquence wouldn't qualify as a true third party source for whom Freedom =

Scientific isn't answerable. As I say, that's my legal impression, from =

what I understand about such relationships. nderstadnd.nswereable.
All this means is that they must contact the producer of the software =
once a
bug is reported to them. Meaning you report a problem you are having =
with
jaws and the synthesizer to fs they can not say well go talk to so and =
so
they them selves have to report it to speech works in this case. They =
have
no power to change the code in any way unless it is a interface issue. =
An
example of this might be after I load jaws and unload jaws jaws will no
longer find the speech driver. Now this is a jaws issue, they wrote the
driver and can make fixes to the driver. =20
Hope that helps clear things up.=20
Of course if we were dealing with open source then everything would be =
much
easier. Because that works on the bases you see a problem and you =
report
the problem you have lots of other people out there besides the main
producer who can fix the problem. Or if you want to and know how you =
your
self can fix the problem. =20
