Oh, I would have to disagree about windows messenger being less quality than MSN messenger. i have tried both and love windows messenger for the easy interface. Don't understand the less quality thing at all. I can't tell the difference. Except, that windows messenger because of its interface is easier to use. and you can add my name to your list if you want, jazzpiano@xxxxxxxxxxxx

Jim

Why don't you go for MSN? They say Windows messenger is less in quality
compared to MSN.

If you use Windows XP, I'd recommend windows Messenger, since it's already
built in to XP and the scripts for it and JAWS are right there with JAWS.

Hi guys,

I missed a lot of this thread because I don't use any chat program so
I didn't open the messages. but I gave in to my curiosity and read
one or two of the most recent ones just now, and it made me wonder if
maybe I shouldn't invest a little effort in learning at least one of
the chat program, just case it allows for a little more online
communication one of these days.

So I have a pretty basic question, and I invite listers like Bruce who seems to have extensive and comprehensive knowledge of this topic. I would love to be able to use at least one chat application, but I'd love to know which would provide the optimal combination of widespread use and popularity as well as relative simplicity for a newbie like myself, including whatever scripts are available for Jaws 7 to make it usable, if they have to be found and installed.

Thanks. It's just that in the last couple of years before the
Internet spread so widely, And I could still see the text on my
screen, I used to belong to a local BBS (bulletin board system) and
really enjoyed real-time chat. But when I imagine doing that with
Jaws, it overwhelms me, the very idea, of lines of text constantly
appearing onscreen, immediately followed by yet more, the very thing
that was so exciting and fun when I could see to do this visually.

Thanks for suggestions.

hi Jouie,

As I mention in my previous email, the script that come with jaws 5.0
may not support fully for msn 7.5. After I do a double check, the
script that include in jaws 5.0 for msn is version 1.85 and with jaws
6.20 is version 1.90. As I remember correctly, jaws 6.20 only support
msn up to version 6.2, so, for version 5.0 of jaws I don't think can
support up to the latest version of msn.

Ya I realized those now. But, my question now will be, if ever you want to do it manually, where can you find this option? I mean the settings for enabling/disabling the typing sound?

hi Jouie,

may I know you are using JFW 5.0 with which version of MSN?

when you read the help section, do the help stated the command is work
find with which version of MSN?

if you are using MSN higher then version 6.2, this command may not
useable.

if you are using JFW 7.0, this setting can be found in JAWS Verbosity by pressing insert+v.

I read the help section of my JAWS 5.0. I went to popular applications and I chose MSN Messenger looking for JAWS commands for this instant messenger program. Then, as expected, I found few commands that have triggered my curiosity enough for me to open MSN immediately! As stated, I pressed ctrl shft f12 (toggle command) to hear a sound if the contact is typing. Also, ctrl alt f12, also a (toggle command), to hear JAWS says a message if the contact is typing
etc. Now my question is, do these commands work?
