Hi Andrew,

All languages have colorful and frankly xenophobic expressions. But here we are on an international list with many wonderful contributors whose first language isn't English. None of us want to discourage them from participating by casual expressions like this, which may sound neutral to an English speaker but will have a very different resonance for someone not fluent in our language.

This is not an academic question. A member of a related list pulled out after feeling his value was denigrated by such a casual remark. I know because he contacted me privately. That occurred before yesterday. I wouldn't be making this point but for that experience. I believe you to be a person of goodwill. While it's easier to take such things lightly and dismiss them, a list of this magnitude requires an extra degree of sensitivity.

Hi Adrian!

Well, you would be amazed at some expressions I have to deal with. I am a
translator/interpreter with Spanish, English and French and I am compiling a
glossary of expresions and some of them are well, I will not post any of
them.

Other than that, thanks for the info on the authorization...

Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks, Andrew. The expression would seem unfortunate in any language,
but
your intention wasn't.
