I haven't found a way for the application mode not to start automatically. A lot of it depends on which version of JAWS you have running. JAWS10 was very difficult in this way, because the changes on the yahoo page occurred after the code for JAWS10 was written.

If you're running JAWS11, just press the Minus key on the key pad, or the key that switches to PC Cursor. This will immediately take you back out of application mode.

Is there a way to have application mode NOT start automatically whenever the hell it pleases on certain sites? Namely yahoo.
