Two things you should do to improve pdf access. First, rather than hitting enter on a link, use the right mouse button and hit A for Save Target As. that will always download the pdf. Second, go into Adobe Reader, hit Ctrl-K or Preferences on the edit menu, arrow down to the Internet branch and uncheck display pdf in browser. that way, when you do hit enter on a pdf, it will display the document in Adobe reader rather than an Internet Explorer window.
