Yardbird,You got it. That is the way to find out the status. Open AdAware and press spacebar on the "status" button. Several lines of information appear. I virtualized the window and now copy the relevant line, in case anyone else wants to look for it:Ad-Watch Definitions file SE1R210 27.12.2007 Loaded DetailsOf course, as that line shows, my last definitions update is dated December. I don't know the date of the update that Matthew made available to the list. I have to go now, but I'll check if the file shows it later.Thanks. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Yardbird" <yardbird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Adrian,I'm not sure if I learned this from someone here or on another list recently, but here's something that might help. Tab to the Status button on the AdAware interface. Now, and I forgot quite how I managed this, maybe it was by playing with the Jaws cursor or clicking on that button or both, but try to open up the information that this button is meant to provide. There'll be a list of report items here, and one of the very first ones will show the date on which you installed those updates, in one of those European style date formats that may mislead you for a moment until you hear the 08 and realize that you also just heard the day's date and 01 for January. Or in a different and likely unaccustomed order. You'll see what I mean.If you find this line, then I believe you're seeing that your update was incorporated as you hoped it would be.I know that all sounds a little vague, and that's how looking for this information felt, too. But I think that's the ticket.Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adrian Spratt" <A.Spratt@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, January 15, 2008 3:53 PM Subject: Re: Addaware 2007 with screenreadersThanks. I solved the installation problem but, as others have written, the program continues to report that it hasn't been updated for a certain period of time. So we have no reliable assurance that we are being protected.----- Original Message ----- From: "Matthew" <mdyer1@xxxxxxxxxx>Hi, I do not have the program installed as I am using windows vista and not sure if It will work.Matthew -----Original Message-----From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Adrian SprattSent: Monday, January 14, 2008 10:33 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: Addaware 2007 with screenreaders Matthew, Thanks for doing something constructive to solve this problem. However, I'm wondering whether you were able to get this method to work. I followed the link you forwarded to the list and downloaded the zip file. It wasn't set up to unzip into the Lavasoft program files, so I unzipped it into my unzipped files folder and copied it into the Lavasoft program files in My Computer. I opened AdAware, performed a new scan and closed AdAware. Then I went to the Lavasoft application in the programs under Start. I was advised that my definition files are still eighteen days old.I wonder if I'm doing anything wrong in the procedure I've outlined. Either way, I would recommend that lavasoft do two things to make this manual process more practical:1. Ensure that the appropriate Lavasoft folder is specified for the Unzip wizard.2. Set up an email list to notify us when new definition files are available.Again, many thanks. Please let me know if you see an error in the procedure I describe.----- Original Message ----- From: "Matthew" <mdyer1@xxxxxxxxxx> Hi allm,I am sending this message from levasoft regarding addaware. As you know, we are addressing theissue this year.In the meantime, you are welcome to continue to use Ad-Aware SE Personal foras long as we are able to provide updates to Ad-Aware SE's threat database. Lavasoft plans to continue to provide updates to the Ad-Aware SE threat database well into this year.In order to continue to keep Ad-Aware SE Personal updated, you will need to perform manual updates when new Definitions Files are released. Here are theinstructions for performing a manual update for Ad-Aware SE: - Close Ad-Aware SE. - Download the latest Definitions File in ZIP format herehttp://download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip and save the file to a temporary location. - Unzip the contents of the file either with a ZIP utility or with the built-in support in Windows to the Ad-Aware SE installation directory, which usually is "C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-AwareSE\". - Open Ad-Aware SE. - Confirm that the latest Definitions File is installed by checking the "Initialization Status" in the main program window.
