  Ok,

Yes I can verify for you that both programs do pick up different things. I
have checked them both to verify this. Each program is designed to pick up on
different threats. Adaware is designed to mostly pick up cookies and other ad
based software and spybot is mostly used to pickup on other types of spyware
and malware. I can assure you that both do indeed pick up different types of
things.

    Hi Rick,

I wasn't asking Julie for general advice about self protection. I use a
couple of different anti-spyware programs, a good antivirus program, have a
hardware router, and overall have everything pretty well together, for a long
time. I really was asking a specific question of Juli regarding something she
had just written to the list,, not an overall question about how to protect my
computer. I literally was asking what I asked.

Thanks for the encouragement to compute carefully, though. That's a good
policy for all of us.

    Hi,

Yes Adaware and SpyBot SD find totally different things and both are
essintial. Also Windows Defender will pick up different things as well. and
don't forget your Anti-virus software. These days you can't ever have enough
scanning programs if your going to travel the internet on a regular basis.

      Hi Julie,

You say that if you have both Spybot and AdAware, each of them picks up
stuff that the other misses. I've heard this said before, but I wonder, how do
you know? Do you inspect what each program has caught every time you do a scan
with one of them, for instance?

      Thanks.

I don't think either one is better than the other, and having both isn't
a
bad idea. They both pick up things the others don't. I got my versions
from
the JFW Lite page, and of course have updated them since, but that's
where
mine came from originally. Take care.
