Why don't you want AVG in the system tray? It's not resource hungry, if that's the reason. Just curious.

Hi List,

Another question about AVG is this. I am running XP Media Center and JFW 8.
When I install AVG, it wants to be left running in the sys tray. I don't
want anything running in the sys tray. When it is removed and I attempt to
update, i get an error message and AVG will not run the update. The only
way I have found to correct this mess is to reinstall AVG. Any suggestions?

So Barbara

If I am understanding you right you don't even want to see a notification
when avg is updating itself?

Hum! have to look into this one.

The "display message only if a problem exists" relates to AVG warning you if something is amiss. For example, if AVG finds a problem with an e-mail, or
AVG can not update, ...

The instructions I provided turns off the message that the e-mail has been
checked.

Hi folks

I followed Robert's instructions and turned off certify e-mail. I wonder if
under the scheduler where it says display components or display components
only if there is a problem what this means. If anyone knows if this is
where I might turn off those messages or does this mean something else?

Thanks

Barbara

I outlined them in my original message, but here they are again.

In AVG, tab to control system and hit the space bar.

Tab to the list menu and arrow to e-mail scanner.

Tab to properties and hit enter.

Tab to configure and hit enter.

Tab to certify e-mail and uncheck it (I believe it is the third tab).

 Tab to okay

This will not turn off e-mail checking, but it will turn off the message
that AVG is checking the e-mail. Thus, you are still protected.

 Robert

I don't want to turn off any protection but want to get everything to run
in the background without interference.

Do you have the steps to do this?

 Thanks

 Barbara

Yes, only it does not confirm each e-mail message. If you wish to turn
off protection you can do that as well, but that is a separate option.

So if you turn this feature off do you still get protection? I have the
paid version of AVG and am disappointed and annoyed at the interference this
program causes while I read e-mail, work and try to use my computer. When
e-mail is being scanned I cannot read my other mail. If I am working I get all the messages that it is updating or scanning and I cannot continue until
I press okay or close. So maybe there is also a place to check to have it
run in the background instead of interfering with everything else. Anyone
know?

   Thanks

   Barbara

     Yes.

In AVG, go to control system and hit the space bar.

Tab to the list menu and arrow to e-mail scanner.

Tab to properties and activate it.

Tab to configure and activate it.

Tab to turn on notification (or something like that) and uncheck it (I
believe it is the second tab).

     Tab to okay

Is there any way to shut off the notice

No virus found in this incoming message.
     Checked by AVG Free Edition.
     Version: 7.5.484 / Virus Database: 269.13.3/986 - Release Date:
9/3/2007 9:31 AM

Which appears at the end of incoming E-mails? I'm using the free
version and thought I had E-mail scanning turned off. Thank you.
