Thanks I'll be trying what Robert said and hope it works. If it does I will
be sure to let others know.
I'm no whizz on the computer but can get by and follow instructions so we'll
see.

Barbara,

Wow, that sound overwhelming and ridiculous. I have no way of guessing
whether it has to do with your using the paid (Pro) version. Anyway, have
you tried what others have suggested about going into the settings for the
program and turning off notification? As someone has already reassured, that
won't disable he scanning. It'll just stop AVG from telling you what it's
doing as it works, which may be no problem for a sighted computer user but
obviously steals jaws focus in this case.

Good luck. Again, all I can say is that I really sympathize with your
frustration. As you've seen, there's a sort of Nod 32 cult that believes AVG
is entirely inferior in every way, and they will continue to encourage you
to switch. And if you're already agreeable about spending money on this
stuff, I suppose it may be worth a try. But I'd try first to fix this by
either finding a way to turn off the notification or, if you somehow find
out that the messages usually display for everyone except that Jaws doesn't
get interfered with by them, then that would be something about your own
video settings and that sort of thing. Which again is over my head.

I can only say that I've been running AVG Free Edition for years and, no
matter what the anti-AVG Nod 32 boosters say about it, I haven't had any
system crashes and virus wipeouts and any of that stuff all this time, so
don't worry. Also, the Pro version just has advantage about settings,
support and so forth. It's not programmed any differently for its virus
scanning, so far as I've ever heard from responsible sourced. So never mind
people who like to say "hey, you get what you pay for, snicker snicker."
People like to hear themselves say stuff like that. It feels good. But that
really isn't pertinent in this case.

Hope you find a solution.

No there is no message as e-mail is downloading. I just can't do anything
with my e-mail program, can't read mail, can't type, can't arrow up or down,
nothing until all that mail is downloaded and scanned. It is very
frustrating.
The messages I referred to can happen also when trying to read e-mail but
usually I am working at the time and again can't type, can't read anything
on the screen and cannot use my arrow keys, nothing once again until I
answer the okay or close message that comes up on the screen.
I'd be thrilled to know how to configure it to do everything in the
background without turning anything off but so far I'm at a loss.
This is the paid version and wonder if that makes a difference but quite
frankly I don't care what the program is doing as long as it is doing and
letting me go about my other business.

AVG is perfectly accessible out of the box, too, and what this person's
complaining about doesn't happen to everyone. I've used AVG Free Edition
over several versions, for years, and have never had my composition or
reading of emails been interfered with by AVG describing what it's doing to
scan that stuff as it goes. It may be that those messages, which I'm
supposing appear onscreen but aren't much of a bother to a sighted user,
could be silenced by adjusting something that's affecting Jaws's focus. But
maybe someone else knows for sure. But you certainly don't have to disable
your email scanning capability. Maybe it's what someone else said, that you
go into a properties dialogue and uncheck notification. Maybe that turns off
these messages, which are meant to be reassuring but obviously aren't very
much fun for a Jaws user who has to hear them. :-)

this is why i use nod32, no work arounds, it's accessible out of the box and
it's just a better program.

So if you turn this feature off do you still get protection? I have the
paid version of AVG and am disappointed and annoyed at the interference this
program causes while I read e-mail, work and try to use my computer. When
e-mail is being scanned I cannot read my other mail. If I am working I get
all the messages that it is updating or scanning and I cannot continue until
I press okay or close. So maybe there is also a place to check to have it
run in the background instead of interfering with everything else. Anyone
know?
  Thanks
  Barbara

    Yes.

In AVG, go to control system and hit the space bar.

Tab to the list menu and arrow to e-mail scanner.

Tab to properties and activate it.

Tab to configure and activate it.

Tab to turn on notification (or something like that) and uncheck it (I
believe it is the second tab).

    Tab to okay

Which appears at the end of incoming E-mails? I'm using the free
version and thought I had E-mail scanning turned off. Thank you.
