A Note about Subject Lines

Hi all,

I think subject lines are probably the hardest part of mailing lists
sometimes, the trick being to get it long enough to give a clue, but short
enough so as not to be convoluted. We have a thread right now, for
example, where the subject line is something to the effect of:

The New JFW Update: Is It Okay to Download or Are There Still Some Things
That Need to be Worked Out?

This one is a bit long. While short subject lines are a bother for their
lack of clarity, long subject lines are often truncated or split over
lines and can cause confusion. For this thread, one possible subject Line
might be:

New JFW Update: Safe or Buggy?

This is concise, it explains the question, and it still minimizes unneeded
wordage.

Just some thoughts on subject lines from your friendly neighborhood list
admin.

Bruce
