Hi Andrew
do you have a link or a web address for Sophos? and is it a good programme,
as I am looking to change from AVG as I am finding it not so good any more
and the latest version is awfully inaccessible I think anyway, wondered if
you could help me out ?

also was it you that said I could install Jaws 4.5.1 on my father's machine
n Spain, if this is so, how could I put this onto it permanently? and how
could I add another member to Jaws 4.5.1? my sister also is an RP sufferer
and she is at the stage between print and tape, and really could do with a
screen reader although she isn't computer literate, she only really uses e
mail word and the internet, what programme would suggest for her needs? She
has been to RNIB, and was given information about funding as she isn't
working, she isn't sure who to approach for this? any help would be
appreciated.

kind regards
from
Jane

Hi,

It has basically the same options as other antivirus checkers viz
notification or denying access. I have been using it for a couple of months
since AVG didn't detect a trojan on my sister's machine. If you are using
the disk based authorisation you need to stop the sweep service - this has
all changed with the new version and the new way of getting updates, there
are more services on the system now than there were previously regarding
auto updating etc.

Thanks.
Andrew.

Sophos is well known in government and some corporate installations, it is
very efficient and quite aggressive anti-virus. My only worry would be in a
home environment that it might be rather too agressive where the environment
is somewhat more relaxed than coroporate/government installations. However
I have not tried it in home situation but may be a good alternative. One
snag though with it that we've seen is disabling the software through it's
interface doesn't actually disable all of it, which is awkward if you are
installing Quella Jaws authorisation, you need to stop all it's services
before the PC is free enough to take authorisation.

Hi,

Hate to put a spanner in the works, but I use Sophos here, which is also
very accessible. It may be more geared to network installations, but is
very accessible, and there may be a home version also.

Thanks.
Andrew.
