I had set the language in Word, but had forgotten the office tools facility
in Office 2003 and XP Pro!

Hi David,
You don't mention Operating System or Version of Office, but
below is what Help says for Office 2003.
You can also set the default Language for a document in
Word, by selecting "language" from the Tools menu.

Change the default language setting
You can change your default settings in Microsoft Office to
have them match the default settings of a different
language.
In Microsoft Windows XP, on the Windows Start menu, point to
All Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft
Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2003 Language
Settings.
In Windows 2000, on the Windows Start menu, point to
Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft
Office Tools, and then click Microsoft Office 2003 Language
Settings
Click the Enabled Languages tab.
In the Choose the language that defines default behavior in
Microsoft Office applications box, select the language you
want, and then click OK.
A message appears describing the effects of the change. To
continue, click Continue and lose customizations.

Hi all:
Having re-installed software on a new PC, I now have an
issue.
It is a Dell which loads some Dell utilities on startup - I
haven't yet been
able to disable this.
It may explain what is happening though, and I would
appreciate input from
those more knowledgeable than me.
I use Word as my email editor with Outlook and JAWS 9
(latest version).
Although regional settings are put to U.K. English, and in
Word, when using
Outlook, the spell check is U.S. English.
Any suggestions welcomed.
