Hi Paul

You don't need to uninstall your virus checker, you just disable it.  Make 
sure you are not connected to the net and this won't be a problem.  You 
could simply try doing the defrag without uninstalling it though.  As for 
checking the progress, why would you want to do this?  You might as well set 
it going and go to bed.  In the morning, the defrag will be done.

When you do a disc clean up, the utility will delete files from various 
places, such as the recycle bin and temporary folders, and all are ok to 
delete.
