[jaws-uk] launching applications query

Hi all,
Whenever I wish to launch the internet, I seem to have to wait a good few
seconds to a minute or so before I can do anything.
I have noticed this problem for a while and wondered why it is and whether
or not I can do anything about it.
This also seems to happen when launching Microsoft Word and I have to wait a
similar length of time before I can do anything with it.
Outlook launches without too much difficulty and I am only waiting a few
seconds before I can read any mail.
I am using JAWS version 5 and Windows ME.
