Thanks Jim.

Dave,

With regard to wanting to having something to switch between your PC,
telephone and plextalk I use a headset connected to a splitter box
supplied by Hagar Electronics (paid for by Access To Work).

You can have PC from both ears, or PC in one ear and telephone in the
other, or PC and other audio together.

However it does depend on whether you have the type of phone that can
connect to the splitter box.

Sorry I don't have Hagar's contacts details to hand but I will try to
dig them up is you need them.

Regards.

Jim Williams

Ed,

Does this mask also absorb sound so no one around you can hear when the
office is quiet? and is laughing gas on tap when required? Could also do
with a control to switch between PC, Telephone and Plextalk PTR2. Also
be nice if it didn't mess up my hair and make me feel claustrophobic and
as if I'm the one wired into the national grid. Any ideas? I have its
called a private room.
I spend all day talking and listening to a computer, answering the
phone, listening too and dictating into a PTR2 and would like to do all
this somewhere quiet and with some privacy and not get tied up in
wiring.
I am currently waiting for the company to move my equipment into a room
they have found in the on site learning centre. This is to enable me to
complete my training in the use of my system using voice recognition.

I currently use a VXI Talkpro Express headset through a Buddy G5, which
is the one recommended by Terry Clasper of T&T consultancy plus I have
taken delivery of a VXI Blueparrott B1000 USB wireless headset for use
at home, when I can get the damn thing working. It doesn't seen to be
pairing with the base unit, Terry is kindly looking into it for me at
the moment.

Dave

This is called the steno mask, and although it is viable in noisy
environments most people find it unusually constraining. For those that
have never worked with it it is like the mask that a dentist uses to
give you nitrous oxide or the type of mask the pilot would have worn in
the old days for oxygen. The microphone elements are built into the end
of it.

Typically, we have found that one can get by in noisy environments with
microphones with active noise canceling technologies... of which there
are several manufacturers. I also think that the Sennheiser ME3
microphone may be a good one for this type of noisy environment. When
Terry Clasper did his demonstration at CSUN with his Sennheiser it
didn't miss a beat.

At the CSUN conference there was a demonstration of a device like a
breathing mask that covered the mouth and the microphone together for
using voice dictation in noisy environments.

Hi Pranav,

The problem is the acoustics are all over the place from extremely quiet
to extremely noisy to the point where I cannot hear myself think. When
it is quiet, everyone in the office can hear every word I say and I'm
sure quickly get sick of hearing me too. When the noise level in the
office is reasonable, it is very noticeable that when I start talking to
the pc, the noise level reduces. Now just what are they listening to?
My standard headset is the VXI Talkpro Express, which has a very good
microphone.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Dave,

I cannot comment on the legislation. However, I have read about several
people using Dragon NaturallySpeaking in extremely noisy environments
such as the emergency wards of hospitals. It all depends on the quality
of microphone that you have. See www.emicrophones.com for a large
selection of microphones or, itspeaking.co.uk.

Pranav
