You would not need to find a blank spot on a desktop if you are creating a
shortcut on the desktop from scratch.  The trick is when you do land on the
desktop that you unselect the currently highlihghted icon.  The way you can
do this is by pressing control+spacebar.  You will then find the right
options when you use shift+f10 or application menu key for createing and
icon whcih will then fall into proprer place on the desktop once created.

How do you consistently find a blank spot on the desk top to create a
shortCut.  Pressed ins-Escape to refresh and then rooted jaws to PC cursor,
but, did not work.
