[jaws-uk] counting words in a doc file

I have just written an article in a document file, and I need to do a word
count before I send it off to the editor.
however, when I have tried pressing the alt key, and then the W for the word
count, but all It's telling me, is the number of characters, lines and
paragraphs, and not what I'm wanting. Any suggestions to how I can over come
this would be very helpful.
