No; it was all very odd.  I have eventually, and touch wood, finally cracked
it though.  I now have all my files.  If anyone else has this problem feel
free to ask me.  It's too tedious to post on spec but I can now, I think,
fill in the large gaps left in Audible's indications of what you are
supposed to do.

What does the file do when you click on it?  does it say, downloading like
the others do?  If no, then audible might have bust that file.  Maybe speak
to audible?

Thanks Martin, got it; that's really useful; thanks again.
I'm still having trouble with downloading some of my books though; I spoke
too soon, it seems; some are going fine now but others very much not.
It might possibly be that the ones in just one part are the difficult ones.
Specifically, I'm struggling with Michael Palin's Erebus, which comes in
just one part and as far as I can tell is simply doing nothing when I ask it
to download.
If you, or anyone, have any ideas, I'd be delighted to hear them.
Cheers
Amie

The downloads folder if the audible manager is installed is in my documents
backslash audible usually.  The direct path from my pc is
C:\Users\yourname\Documents\Audible.  So go to the my documents folder and
you might find audible there, in there is downloads.  Nb, this is windows
seven, windows ten might be different.

Hi Martin and list
Much of my difficulty seems to have resolved by means of that ever-reliable
tech stand-by, namely leaving it alone for a while to think about itself.  I
did leave it overnight, hoping it would sort itself out, but it threw a huge
strop and closed everything (yes, really!).  This time though, I've just
returned to find previously missing books now mysteriously showing perfectly
in Audible Manager.  Still baffling, but at least it's working.
My experience of the Audible site is somewhere between happy and frustrated.
I've managed to use the site with great results; have found new authors and
love the ease of getting huge and complete books quicly, relatively cheaply
(with an annual membership) and at the same time as sighted readers.  I've
just preordered the next Shardlake and am thrilled to be getting it at
publication.
The site is clunky for screen readers though.  You have to use quite a bit
of initiative to figure it out, and scrolling through the library list once
you have a lot of books on there takes ages.  For a long time they had a
notice telling screen reader users they were busy developing a screen
reader-friendly version of the site, but I haven't seen that notice for a
while, and nothing has got noticeably better with the main site.  It is
still a fantastic service though.  When we think of how things were a couple
of decades ago we really have come a wonderfully long way.
The new thing about Audible seems to be that it now has its own downloads
folder, which shows up in the download dialogue box.  I've copied files
directly out of this onto my SD card, which is quick and convenient,
removing the need to use Audible Manager at all.  I don't know how to get to
that folder though,, other than by downloading something so the download
dialogue opens.  If anyone can tell me where to find it more fluently I'd be
grateful.
Amie

My understanding is you can download the book to your phone and listen
offline.  The audible website is easy to use with jaws, I have just done so
after not using it for ages, as your messages prompted me to look for a book
I'd promised the author I'd buy, and I managed to pre order the book for
delivery on the day with ease using jaws.

Veronica

I have a similar issue.  I use Alexa at home to listen to books but also
have audible app on my phone to listen as well.

You can use the app to look up books but it is not possible to order or
download the book using the app with voice over.  Its bizarre!!

So I go to the audible.co.uk website and do all my ordering there.  So I
just use the app to look up books but order them via the website.

Hi, I would also be interested to hear how JAWS works with Audible as I have
had very little success so far and it is so annoying since more and more
books appear to be being published only as an Audible download rather than
in hard CD format!
Thanks,
Veronica

HI list
How is everyone getting on with the audible site at the moment    ,
please?

I've just bought some new books and am wrestling to download them.
The download process seems to have changed, and Audible Manager wants
to update, but then doesn't appear to update when I OK it, and is not
showing my books properly.  It's all a bit odd; some books are
downloading and others not.  I may have set it to download too many at
once, but I'm wondering how to complete it all; is it me, JAWS,
Audible or all three?  Can anyone advise me please?

Many thanks if so.

Amie
