David reading again your Post, I did not know the third item Nvdia, but am told by a friend in US it is the "european version of Open source, he said he used it when Jaws was playing up, interesting the freeby worked and clever of you to replicate the problem yourself and then come up with an answer.Regards Dorothy

It seems that Jaws is triggered into reading the list item too soon, and
once it's read the item which hasn't yet been removed from the list, then
that's it. Window-eyes does the same, but NVDA gets it right - it waits
until the item is removed from the list and then reads the item that
replaces it.

Interesting David, thanks for taking the time to look. You do seem to be
right, there is a slight pause while the email deletes itself. Jaws still
doesn't read the next email automatically though, even when left for a
matter of long seconds. Curious.
