Haha, thank you Ian, appreciate that.  I'd love to use NVDA but am afraid to
try it.  I'm on my own with my tech; work alone and mostly don't have anyone
to ask for help; am not very techie; not for fixing and sorting and figuring
tech things out; and am totally blind so am properly stuffed if I switch off
speech and don't know exactly what I'm doing.  Having said all of that, if
there's a safe way to try NVDA under these circumstances then I'd really
love to.  JAWS is a horrible rip-off; no sighted person would tolerate the
huge price, the memory greed and the lack of reliability for a moment.  Am
frit though, as we say here in Lincolnshire :o)
Warmly
Amie

Hi Amie,

Have you tried using NVDA instead?  At least you'd get an idea whether it is
a Jaws or Windows issue.

Don't apologise for venting; we all need to where computers are concerned.
<smile>

Regards.

Ian

Hi Ian
That's what happens for me too, except it just happens over and over again,
and is a very recent thing.  Often when I ask it to reopen and try again it
makes a really grumpy noise I've never heard before; a single syllable sort
of grunt (Windows not JAWS I think), and won't open.  I'm using Windows 7
and JAWS 16, I think.  Can't upgrade JAWS again as can't afford the rip-off
price, so hoping it will sort itself out.  Just defragged, to see if it's
maybe tangled itself up, but no difference; it won't work at all today.
Anyway thanks again; sorry am really just venting now :o) All bests Amie

Hi Amie,

Sometimes when I try to open a folder, Jaws will just stop responding.  If I
press Alt+F4 and wait for around 30 seconds, Jaws will restart.  Then I can
open the folder again without any problem.  There doesn't seem to be any
pattern as to when this happens.

I'm using the latest Jaws with the 1703 version of Windows.  The Fall Update
of Windows is due to be installed in a day or two so it will be interesting
to see if anything improves.

Regards.

Ian

Subject: [jaws-uk] Windows Explorer playing up

Hi list
Not sure if this is anything to do with JAWS, so please forgive me if this
is just off-topic: in the last few days Windows Explorer has started playing
up by freezing when I ask it to navigate to folers and files.  I do use a
lot of nested folders, but it has never had a problem with that before.  Now
though it crashes when I ask it to navigate, and does it continually, making
itself pretty much unusable.  I'm finding all files from within Word etc.
So far it is handlable but I'd rather fix it and am worried it's the
precursor of something worse.

Can anyone advise me please?

Thanks in advance

A
