Dear Sue

Not sure if the following may be of help, but this information is taken from
the latest RnIB Technology bulletin.

Hope it may help

Freeview Nebula Digital TV receiver for PC

Two products that work with a computer: one is a USB device and the other a PCI
card. Both come with a remote control, so you can set up your computer to work
like a TV. They can receive audio description and record programmes to the
computer's hard disk. Ideal for computer users and compatible with access
software such as screen readers, so you can have your own talking electronic
programme guide! Available from Nebula Electronics www.nebula-electronics.com

Home Multimedia Systems

Within the next months, Microsoft's next operating system, Windows Vista will
be released. The Home Premium edition will include an updated version of Media
Centre. The Vista edition of Media Centre will have improved accessibility
features over the version for XP and will provide more information about the
programmes.

If you are considering purchasing one of these systems or would like to find
out more, it is best to go to a specific retailer such as PC World
http://www.pcworld.co.uk. It is also worth waiting for Media Centre for Vista
as this has improved accessibility features over the version for XP.

Here is a summary of the advantages and disadvantages of Media Centre:

Advantages

· One unit for viewing TV, recording TV and playing DVDs with one remote
control. Media Centre comes either on a standard desktop computer or on a
specially designed box (which looks similar to a current VCR or DVD player).

· Provides an electronic programme guide that can be made accessible if
your computer has a screen reader or text to speech engine

· Can be used to play music and/or view pictures

· Media Centre systems receive free to view digital terrestrial and
satellite channels depending on the type of card that is in the system. For
more information go to http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/onyourpc.html

· It is a full PC underneath so you can check email and perform other
computer tasks from the lounge

· Media Centre can be set up to start automatically thus removing any
complex steps to get to the TV viewing functions.

· Some PC compatible TV cards allow you to watch one channel whilst
recording another

Disadvantages

· Needs an internet connection to receive up the up to date programme
guide

· It does not support Audio Description

· Vista Media Centre is not currently on the market yet

· It cannot receive subscription sky channels without additional
equipment.

  Hi.

I've recently heard about some software that enables you to watch TV on your
pc. You can also record programmes on your harddrive and I find this rather
interesting. Can anyone tell me how to get this software and if it works well
with jaws?

  Thanks.

  Sue.
