Hi Robin. Thanks for writing on this.

No, when we tell the computer to accept changes on the programme it's
just going back to the default Jaws screen (bringing nothing up at
all). I do find this strange as, like you suggested, when I do the
same thing on my version of Jaws 14 it shows a list of add-ons and
manuals that can be installed (no upgraded versions described but this
may be because I've got the last version of Jaws 14 ... not sure).

Presuming that he is more than one version behind, would this prevent
him from upgrading? Also, despite the fact that we're giving the
programme permission to make changes, is it possible that his firewall
or other security settings might be blocking any such activity?

Danny,

Ok, I'll take a stab at this. If you go to www.freedomscientific.com and
click on downloads, Jaws, and look at `Previous versions', it shows you that

the last Jaws 15 is version 15.0.12095....

I don't know the history of updates of JFW15 but looking at the last numbers

in your friends version, I suspect they are more than one update behind.

Another important thing to take into consideration is whether they have 32
or 64 bit operating systems. Make sure you go for the right one, the screen

actually detects it for you if you're not sure.

When you click on check for updates, is there not a screen coming up showing

you a list of downloads? It should tell you that jaws 15.0. bla bla bla is
ready for download?

hth, Robin

Subject: [jaws-uk] Updating Jaws

Hi. I'm writing on behalf of a friend who's having a problem with
updating Jaws. They currently have Jaws 15.0.4203 and Windows 8.
Whenever they run Jaws it advises that updates are available but, when
they use Alt +H and arrow up to Check for Updates and press enter,
they're asked whether they want to allow the programme to make changes
and say yes and the computer reverts straight back to the usual Jaws
screen. We've tried pressing Alt +N and can't see any notifications
so wonder what's going on. My suspicion is that this is the last
version of Jaws 15 before Jaws 16 came out and that this means updates
can't be performed ... would this be correct?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance or advice.

Danny
