Thanks very much, Tristram.

I suppose it depends how much you want to use this application as to whether you'd want to turn off Jaws keystrokes, even briefly.

Best wishes,

Joan.

Dear Joan et al

I have redapted a little of the text here but the sense of it is the same.

The Gmail service can be accessed using shortcut keys. Mostly these consist
of single letter key presses. As you will notice this will cause problems
with Jaws own keyboard shortcuts for the web. In order to resolve this
issue you will need do the following:
1 Press insert+V
2 Use arrow keys or letter N to find "navigation quick keys".
3 Press spacebar to turn this "off".
4 Press enter to dismiss the Verbosity dialogue.

What are the keyboard shortcuts?

you can choose to view messages in basic html which does make the system
more accessible.

Of more immediate concern is the issue of signing up in the first place
since you need to enter characters in a box as shown in a graphic. One of
these word verification type things.

These are of course totally inaccessible and I have sent messages to gmail
about this without any response. This also affects other services owned
by
google such as Blogger..

Gmail won't work that well with Jaws at the moment, a few weeks ago I
posted
some shortcut keys for the service a method for letter Jaws supply them to
the site. This can make the service somewhat more accessible. This
service
is still in beta and a number of poeple have already contact Gmail about
this, I have however not heard any movement from this.

Unfortunately it does not seem possible for users of Outlook or Outlook
Express to properly use the service at the moment through their
applications. Although this is a little against the spirit of the service
it would be nice if it could be cleared up some day as I still prefer to
have mail downloaded locally even though I have access to broadband.

Hi, Folks,

A friend of mine is trying out Jaws at the moment and he uses TMail which
I
think is part of Google.

He finds that Jaws doesn't work with this and I wondered if anyone knew if
there was a way of making it Jaws friendly?

Any help would be appreciated.

Best wishes,

Joan.
